Black Quilt

2017

For over a year I walked along the New Jersey coastline, mainly in the Gateway National Recreation Area collecting plastic trash and styrofoam that had washed up along the shore. The process of walking and collecting was meditative. Even though the material is insidious, I was drawn to how water and natural elements and worked itself into the plastic. Barnacles had found their home within its folds. Saltwater and sand had worn away at the different surfaces, creating delicate and unexpected filigrees.
